ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Checking in patients and completing appropriate charting before sending to the provider
  • Completing office procedures such as Phlebotomy, EKG, & Spirometry under Provider direction
  • Assisting Providers in triaging all walk-in patients
  • Assisting Providers on procedures as appropriate
  • Ordering medical supplies & stocking exam rooms with appropriate items
  • Relaying provider messages clearly & succinctly to patients via telephone
  • Administration of medications & immunizations under the direction of a Provider, have solid understanding of each drug, the side-effects, etc. (training will be provided)
  • Sterilizing equipment- understanding the safe uses of the autoclave (training will be provided)
  • Filing digital faxes and assigning as appropriate
  • Maintaining a confidential relationship with patients
  • Understanding how to properly catch & store specimens for either in-house or send out for testing
  • Preparing lab specimens for shipment by properly identifying, labeling & packaging each specimen
  • Regular cleaning/maintenance of all medical equipment
  • Keep all PHI (Protected Health Information) confidential and complete annual HIPAA compliance training
  • Handling prescription refills, once appropriately trained

Job requirements

  • Ability to assist in a variety of common office procedures
  • Ability to maintain records and record test results
  • Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in emergency situations
  • Exceptional communication skills, both in person and over the telephone, with the ability to interact with patients in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Patient and helpful demeanor to assist patients in feeling welcome, comfortable, and relaxed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patients, their families, and staff members.
  • Ability to cover at other primary care locations a plus, not required

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Experience in physician’s office a plus but not required. We are willing to train and offer MA certification programs in house.

Mental and Physical Requirements: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. This position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment. May require working under stressful conditions.

Conditions: Normal office and exam room environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies, labs, hospitals and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
