ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient electronic medical record prior to appointment and confers with provider regarding radiology orders.
  • Obtains clear image results, which require the proper use of equipment, keeping patients calm and informed.
  • Positions radiographic machinery so it is at a proper distance, angle, and height from the patient.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room and taking vitals, heights, and weights.
  • Prepares, cleans, and maintains exam room and treatment rooms. Keeps exam rooms stocked with supplies.
  • Complies with safety regulations involving the use of radiation to protect themselves, patients, and other staff members from over exposure to radiation.
  • Lessens radiology exposure by using a technique called patient- shielding.
  • Assists providers with patient education and self- management.
  • Will work as a Medical Assistant when not performing imaging duties:
    • Checking in patients and completing appropriate charting before sending to the provider.
    • Completing office procedures such as Phlebotomy, EKG, & Spirometry under Provider direction.
    • Handling prescription refills.
    • Assisting Providers in triaging all walk-in patients.
    • Assisting Providers on procedures as appropriate.
    • Administration of medications & immunizations under the direction of a Provider, have solid understanding of each drug, the side-effects, etc.
    • Sterilizing equipment- understanding the safe uses of the autoclave.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, adhere to HIPAA guidelines and regulations.

Job requirements

  • Current registration in Colorado as a Limited Scope Operator, or current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiography.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and radiological processes.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
  • Ability to assist in a variety of common office procedures.
  • Ability to maintain records and record test results.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both in person and over the telephone, with the ability to interact with patients in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Patient and helpful demeanor to assist patients in feeling welcome, comfortable, and relaxed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patients, their families, and staff members.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Education: Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology or certification as a Limited Scope Operator in Colorado preferred.

Experience: 1 year of experience as an X-ray tech preferred.

Mental and Physical Requirements: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. This position requires a full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment. May require working under stressful conditions.

Conditions: Normal office and exam room environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies, labs, hospitals, and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
